Thomas E. Payne, 33°

From the Sovereign Grand Inspector General in New Mexico

I realize that, as I write this article for the Spring Reunions there is still snow in many places, there is snow in the forecast in some areas and we still have to get past that legendary "Easter Storm". However, by the time this bulletin is delivered to you, the weather will have begun to noticeably warm, the trees will have begun to show some tiny buds and a promise of warmer times will be in the air. We who live in the Southwest look forward to every bit of moisture we receive, particularly in our mountainous areas to recharge the bodies of water that are so vital to our state. We have been tremendously blessed this winter with abundant snows and the promise of sufficient runoff. The ski areas have done exceptionally well and we are glad for them. For those who enjoy winter sports, this has been a wonderful winter. For those who enjoy the warmer activities, there is the promise of great water sports, fishing and hunting in their proper seasons. And speaking of seasons (you knew that I would get to it sooner or later), it is time to begin preparing for our Spring Reunions, which will soon be upon us. We are anticipating a large number of candidates from all over both of the Valleys. Our  Secretaries and their staff are contacting the degree teams and leaders as well as those with other areas of responsibility, reminding them that it is time to begin practicing and to attend to those myriad other tasks that assure a proper and successful Reunion.

I have just returned from the annual Conference of Grand Masters and Grand Secretaries held in Arlington, VA and I can assure you that NM was well represented with our Grand Master, MW David Baker and our Grand Secretary, MW Danny Calloway, PGM in attendance along with several other Grand Lodge officers. It was a very good conference with many issues being discussed and with opportunities to renew old friendships while making important new ones.

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Ill. Danny Lucero, 33º and Ill. Jeff Jordan, 33º to the Valley Advisory Conference. These esteemed brethren will add experience and insight to the Conference and all those presently on the Conference look forward with great anticipation to these additions.
